The Hayward Fault Line runs between Milipitas (includes portions of North San Jose)  and as far North as Oakland, Berkley and Richmond.

It is considered "likely probable" that a major earthquake will strike this fault in the near future (approximately the next 30 years); there is a 30% chance of this happening says the USGS.
